INTRODUCTION ================================================================================ Hello. Me, I'm a 16 years and 8 months old(Based off February 2005). Guild Wars is the greatest Online RPG I've ever played. First, being the E34E, held during 2004 E3. Even though it was during my exam period, I played the 5 day preview >_<. At first, I was introduced to Guild Wars by some friends in an online community, which when I played the E34E, I got hooked. There is no escape, playing my ranger in the PvP arena, it was great. Going PvE, it was fun too. Then, comes the WPE. I skipped it, unwillingly. Major exam coming up as soon as the WPE ends. But I fell to the dark side. I played the November BPE. Tried a Mesmer/Elementalist, it played nice. Started from level 1 instead of 15, played PvE through the missions, it was fun. Walking from Alpine Teabue to Lion's Arch, it was nice too. Next comes the December BPE, and January BPE, which I played roughly 40 hours out of the whole 72 hours. I spent quite a large number of my time in the December BPE in Gladiator's Arena, as well as trying out the premades. This is when I love playing Warriors. Warrior class never amused me in many MMORPGs. Guild War's warrior class just did. And hence, this resulted in my Poison Warrior War/Ran in Janruary BPE. Which I officially joined the guild during the January BPE. We played Tombs, played GvG, farmed items together. At the end of the beta, we ended up 16th out of the thousand guilds. Then in the February beta, I made a Hammer Warrior/Elementalist. Loved it. Warriors has then, been one of my favourite Profession. Currently, I am making this FAQ mostly to kill time while waiting for the next BPE to start. This FAQ, by no means, is supposed to be used only to view the skill and its description, as it is always better to find them on fansites with skill list such as gwonline.net, knight-templar.com ect. The main idea of this FAQ is more of the potential, pros and cons of each skill, how to use it effectively. As well as the strategies for warriors, armors and its advantage for the warriors. It will cover briefly some basic gameplay mechanics but not in depth. Last but not least, the game is still in Beta Phase, which means, the skills are subjected to change. And this skill guide might not be up to date, as any skill changes in the fansites, it would usually take me a while to update it. The skill list is taken from gwonline.net's skill information, and obviously, Tarrant Rahl had gave me the permission to use it. Hence, it would most likely follow their skills and at some point in time, their skills would be more updated than this. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Revision History ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VERSION 0.1 - Started to write this FAQ VERSION 0.1a - Included more gameplay information and corrected a few errors in the FAQ. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Special Thanks ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This FAQ would like to thank the following people. To create a new character, click on the "Create Character" button, and you will be brought to the character creation menu. You start by choosing between Role Playing Character and PvP character. For Role Playing Character, you start from level 1, and work your way up from the start, Pre Searing Ascalon. For the PvP character, you get to choose either a premade template, or a custom made character. In Premade template, you get to pick one out of a number of ready made builds, with the skills already set. For the other, you get to pick skills from a list of skills you have already unlocked, which I will get into unlocking later on. Same for weapon upgrades and runes. You have to unlock them. Once unlocked, you can pick them when you create your character. When you get into the character creation screen, you will be able to choose 2 professions. Dual Profession is one of the important aspects of Guild Wars as it encourages diversity as well as diversifying the PvP aspect of the game itself. Each profession has 75 skills. And Dual Profession means each character would get 150 different skills. You can do minimal customization to how your character looks, but they arn't really noticable as your outfit is usually the one that is more outstanding. You can customize your facial, hairdo, skin tone and body size. There ARE ways to customize your character's looks outside of Character creation. One of it is being, mixing the armors to create a totally different look. It seems that most people just create armors based on the sets, but never bothered to mixed them. Of course, mixing could cause a reduced defence or something else, but sometimes, certain armor gives an advantage in terms of energy or such, but when you don't require that much energy, switching to a higher AL armor would prove to be good. Dying your armors is another way to look unique. There are theoratically 4000 over colours of dye in the game, as one is able to mix the basic dyes with 4 other dyes to create their own unique colour to dye their clothes with. This makes the character having different colours, which can further customize them. But beware, dying your armor to the desired style MAY cause you alot of money, as dyes themselves are a pretty expensive commodity. ------------------------ Unlocking of PvP content ------------------------ Unlocking of Skills and Items are one of the grind-ish part of Guild Wars. When you learn a new skill, a pop up will appear, saying that has been unlocked. When its unlocked, you can pick it from the customized character creation for PvP characters. This is almost the same for unlocking Runes and Weapon upgrades. When they are identified from some item, the pop up will say has been unlocked. Runes are generally retreived from Salvage Items. If you happen to pick up a unidentifed salvage item, identify it. You will find a rune inside the salvagable item. If it isn't unlocked yet, a pop up will pop out(tautology) saying its unlocked. To retreive the rune, you will require an expert salvage kit. Normal Salvage kit will never net you the rune. Be warned, an expert kit might not always give you the rune. There is a slight chance of salvaging the rune (Which is considered as an uncommon item). For weapon upgrades, they are found in weapons(like duh). Weapons that are not identified have a chance of containing an upgrade, or just some basic modifiers. The colour of the item doesn't matter(Other than white, which never have unidentified on them). Like runes, you have to use expert salvage kits to salvage off the runes, and it has a chance of success. --------------------- Character Progression --------------------- Your character's attribute menu would have alot of numbers, and could be confusing for a new player. Here is the breakdown on each of the numbers: [Level]------------------------------------------------------------------------ Shows the level you are at. [Experience Points]------------------------------------------------------------ The bar shows the total exp points needed to get to next level, green coloured means the parts you have already earned. Whenever it fills, you will level up. When you reach level 20, you don't level up but will still gain a skill point as usual. Experience points needed to level up follows the formula: 2000 + (600)(n), where n is the number of times you have leveled up previously. E.G. Level 2 require 2000 + (600)(0) = 2000. Level 5 would require 2000 + (600)(3) = 3800. EXP gain from enemy follows the formula: (Base EXP)/Number of Party Members, where: "Number of Party Members" includes henchmens and all human players, but not NPC controlled players like Prince Rurik or pets. "Base EXP" goes like this: x is "Your level" - "Enemy's level", General Formula: x = 120 + (x-1)(16), if x is negative. x = 100 EXP, if x is 0. x = 80 - (x-1)(16), if x is postitive. When taking x, ignore the positive and negative signs of x. E.G. When x is -2, EXP gained is 120 + (2-1)(16) = 136EXP. When x = 3, EXP gained is 80 - (3-1)(16) = 48EXP. [Health, Energy and Regeneration]----------------------------------------------- For health, you start with 100, and gain 20 max HP everytime you level up. Reaching level 20 means you'll level 19 times, gaining 380 HP, hence max HP without the modification of Weapons/Runes is 480. The number of Health regeneration when you are not attacking or getting attacked is 10. The number will drop to 0 when you get attacked or is attacking, and slowly build back to 10 over time if you have health lost. For energy, you start with 20 and stay at 20. This will only change with the armor you are equipped. The base number of energy regeneration is 2, which will change based on your armor. Spellcasters' armor generally supply 2 extra energy regeneration arrows, and 10 extra energy, though there are some giving lesser and some giving more. Rangers' armors generally supply 1 extra energy regeneration arrow and 5 extra energy, though there are some giving more. Warriors' armors generally does not give extra energy regeneration and energy, though there are some giving more energy. For every arrow of health regeneration or degeneration, you recover or loses respectively, 1 HP per half second, or its the same as 2 HP per second. For every arrow of energy regeneration or degeneration, you recover or loses respectively, 1/3 energy per second. [Attribute Points]-------------------------------------------------------------- You start with 0, and gain 5 attribute points whenever you level up, till level 10, a total 9 level ups. Then, you gain 10 attribute points whenever you level up, till level 15, a total of 5 level ups. After which, you gain 15 attribute points whenever you level up, till level 20, a total of another 5 level ups. This adds up to 5*9 + 10*5 + 15*5 = 170. The remaining 30 attribute points are gained through completion of 2 quests, each netting 15 attribute points. Attribute points are used to raise your attributes, which depends on your professions. A Warrior/Elementalist would have Strength, Sword Mastery, Axe Mastery, Hammer Mastery, Tactics, Fire Magic, Earth Magic, Water Magic and Air Magic. This is the part which determines the effect of your skill. Adding points into the respective attribute increases the strength of the related skills. Take note that adding attribute points are not 1-1, but rather, follow a exponential curve. Attribute points are capped at a max of 12. Rank - Cost needed to increase - Total cost 1 - 1 - 1 2 - 2 - 3 3 - 3 - 6 4 - 4 - 10 5 - 5 - 15 6 - 6 - 21 7 - 7 - 28 8 - 9 - 37 9 - 11 - 48 10 - 13 - 61 11 - 16 - 77 12 - 20 - 97 As you can see, the price difference starts to increase from level 8, and gets really steep after level 9. You can take level 9 as the base, wherelse anywhere after 9 is considered a bonus. Having bonuses in one of the attributes just mean you'll be specialising in the particular area. Recommended Attribute Distribution: 9-9-9-9 : All average, no specialisation. Use this only as a final resort. 12-12-3 : Dual Specialisation, one super weak. Use this only as a final resort. 12-10-8 : One specialise, one just above average, one just below average. Recommended 11-11-8 : Similar to 12-10-8, but increases the above average at the expense of the specialised. Can work well when used with runes. 11-10-10: All above average, no specialise. Can work well when used with runes. [Skill Points]------------------------------------------------------------------ Skill point is one of the main ways you need to learn skills. You can gain them through many ways, one is by filling up your EXP bar, second is by doing missions and quest. You will require 1 skill point whenever you learn a skill from the skill trainer, be it a signet of resurrection or a sword attack, or signet of capture. This does not apply to Pre Searing Ascalon. [Rank]-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your rank depends on your fame. When your fame hits a certain level, your rank will increase. You wil be rewarded with a command of /fame when you reach rank 3. Rank has no other effect as of yet. [Fame]-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your fame is gained through Tombs of the Premedival Kings. When you win, you'll gain fame. The longer you last, the more fame you will gain per round. [Attribute Refund]-------------------------------------------------------------- Capped at 24 at a time, refund points allow one to change the attribute distribution in case you find that you need to increase the distribution in some parts for your build to work more efficiently or if you added into the wrong stat ect. 1 Attribute Refund Point can be gained for every 250 EXP earned. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Professions ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are a total of 6 professions in the game, each with their own pros and cons(I sound like the host of the amazing race \=). The 6 professions are Warrior, Ranger, Necromancer, Monk, Mesmer and Elementalist. A ranger for example, would be an effective long range shooter, but would lost to warriors in terms of close combat, as a warrior simply have more melee utility skills as compared to a ranger. Wherelse a ranger has ranged advantage over warriors, they are able to start shooting the warriors before they reach, as well as being able to attack with near the same or even stronger brute power as compared to warriors. There is no "Superb Owning" profession here. Each profession is equally balanced. There is no certain "Ownage" build to follow either, as each build will simply have a nemesis build, or even nemesis skills which can easily break the build, rendering it useless. However, if a person makes a build JUST to counter another particular build, it would be rendered useless in the battlefield as he/she has no means of dealing with the other team mates. To summarise the above 2 paragraphs, each profession and builds have tricks of their own, but there is always another skill/build that can counter them. Next, since you are going to choose 2 professions, this makes you having a wider choice of character choice. Each profession has 75 skills, 15 of which are elite skills. Elite skills are skills which are more powerful, hence you can only bring one of it into the battlefield at any point in time. Combining the 2 professions, you get a total of 150 skills with 30 elite skills to choose from, which is a hell lot of skills. And since it is dual professions, you will have a list of 30, yes 30, different types of combination to choose from. Some new players think that 30 is just an exergerated figure, but what they think isn't correct. Having a Warrior/Ranger is TOTALLY different from a Ranger/Warrior. Here are the reasons how they are different. 1) Ranger's primary attribute is Expertise, wherelse Warriors is Strength. A warrior/Ranger would not have expertise to pump, which results in ranger's expertise skills being of lesser use to the character as compared to a ranger/warrior. The same is true for the opposite. 2) Also, each primary attribute have a relating "Feat". For warriors, you will get a armor penetration bonus for attack skills with points added into the attribute. For Rangers, you will get reduced energy cost for attack skills, preparations and traps. This would constribute to a great difference in terms of their abilities. 3) You can only craft and equip armors of your PRIMARY profession. Armors make a great deal as each armor is different. In terms of AL, in terms of bonuses ect. If you go with a Warrior/Ranger, you would face with a armor that is strong in terms of resisting attacks, but it would not grant any energy bonus. Wherelse for Rangers, you would get more energy but a lower AL, which means you would be taking more damage. 4) Last but not least, you can only use runes of your primary professions. Runes, which will be explained in greater detail later, is basically items imbuned to your armor to increase the effectiveness of your character. It was said in Fansite Friday that when the game releases, it is possible to switch secondary profession halfway through. Doing so, you get a attribute reset and a new set of attributes, from your secondary profession. You get to keep your skills learned from the previous secondary profession. Hence, it is possible for one character to learn ALL of the 450 odd skills. The cost is another issue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Conditions and Skill Types ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- Conditions ---------- [Bleeding]--------------------------------------------------------------------- Bleeding causes a health degeneration of 3. [Blind]------------------------------------------------------------------------ Blind causes melee and ranged attacks to have a 90% chance to miss. Ranged attacks have the tendency to stray from its originated target. Blind can be identified by the black mist around his/her head. [Burning]---------------------------------------------------------------------- Burning causes a health degeneration of 7. Burning can be identified by the body being on fire. [Cripple]---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cripple slows the movement by 50%. [Dazed]------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dazed causes the time required for spells to be cast trippled, and makes spell casting easily interupted. Dazed can be identified by the pulsating white rings around the head. [Deep Wound]------------------------------------------------------------------- Deep Wound reduces the maximum health and current health by 20% and reduces health healed from skills that heal you. [Disease]---------------------------------------------------------------------- Disease cause a health degeneration of 4, and spreads to nearby creatures of the same specie. Disease is identified by the green mist around the chest. [Exhaution]-------------------------------------------------------------------- Exhaution causes a -10 maximum energy, which will recover slowly over 30 seconds. *Note: Exhaution is not really considered as a condition in the game as it doesn't trigger skills which triggers when being in a condition, nor can it be cured. E.G. Fragility* [Poison]----------------------------------------------------------------------- Poison cause a health degeneration of 4. Poison is identified by the green skull over the head. [Weakness]--------------------------------------------------------------------- Weakness cause a 66% damage reduction. ---------- Skill Type ---------- Certain skill types are just there for "Identification" purposes, which some other skills or effects can affect it through its skill type(E.G. Attack). Other skill types have special properties for it. All skill types have been used for identification purposes. -Skill- Mainly used for Identification purposes. All of the skills other then signets are considered skill. -Attack- Attack Skill includes Melee Attack, Sword attack, Hammer Attack, Bow Attack ect. Mainly used for identification purposes, and are usually damage dealing skills, which is usually a "Hit and Go" type, other the the conditions inflicted(If it does inflict any conditions). An Axe attack can only be used when you are equipped with an Axe, same for the other attack. Melee attack is only when you're in touch range from the opponent. -Spells- Spells include Hex Spells ect. Mainly used or identification purposes. -Hexes- Hexes are mainly used for identification purposes. Hexes are always paired as Hex Spell. Meaning they are both Hexes and spells. Hexes are "Special" conditions inflict on a target, which will affect the target as the hex says. Hexes have negative effects and can only be cast on enemies. -Stance- Stances cannot stack. Meaning activating a newer stance would cancle the earlier stance. This can be used to advantage(E.G. Mesmer's Distortion). -Enchantment- Enchantments are are similar to hexes, but have positive effect and can only be cast on you or your allies(Depends on the skill). Enchantments are always paired as Enchantment Spell. Meaning they are both Enchantment and Spell. -Shout- Shouts are mainly used in identification purposes. -Signet- Signet are skills or spells which doesn't require energy to use. They are not considered as skills or spells, but rather, Signet. -Glyph- Glyph are skills that affect spells that gives the spell additional attributes. Glyphs cannot stack, activating a Glyph while having one already activated will cause the previous Glyph to activate. -Preparation- Preparations are skills which affect your attacks, ranger exclusive. They have different abilities, which for a given time, affects your normal attack, mainly bow attacks, but there are exceptions. Preparation doesn't stack, activating a new preparation while one is in effect will cancle the former one. -Nature Ritual- Nature Rituals are skills which creates a spirit that causes an universal effect to all creatures within its range. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Miscellaneous ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Armor ----- Armor not only customize what you look, it IS the difference between each profession. The only thing that makes a N/W different from a W/N is the armor. They have different Armor Level(AL), which means a Warrior, which their armor has higher AL, takes lesser damage as compared to a Necromancer, whose AL is lower. On the other hand, a Necromancer's armor would usually have additional energy(Like +10 energy, +2 energy regen overall) as compared to a warrior who has none of at max, +4 energy. Armor also affect the rune you can use. You can only add a rune to the armor of the same profession. Since you can only wear armor of your primary profession, you can't use runes of your secondary profession. Also, there is no armor that can be shared between everyone. The armor would be customized for each character when it is crafted. No enemy would drop armor, which means armor can only be crafted at the crafters located all over the place. -Runes- There are many runes at the moment, mainly attribute runes. More runes would be added. Runes can be imbuned into armors to give the wearer special effects. You can only imbune rune into the armor of the same profession, and since you can only wear armor of primary profession, you can only use rune of your primary profession. There are mainly 3 types of runes, Minor, Major and Superior. Minor is weaker than both Major and Superior, and Major is weaker than Superior. However, attriute runes have side effects. Major runes carry a side effect of -50HP, and superior runes carrying a -75HP side effect. Non attribute runes doesn't have these side effects, like Absorbtion, Fury and Vigor. Attribute runes affect your attributes, minor being +1, major +2, superior +3. Other runes have other effects, like reducing damage, or giving extra max health. ------- Weapons ------- There are many weapons, each with their own pros and cons. Mainly they differ in the average damage, range of damage, attack speed and range. Their skills related play a part too. For swords, they have a higher average damage as compared to an Axe, and lower damage range. The max damage of an Axe is higher then that of a sword. Swords also have quite a variety of utility skills. For Axes, they have a lower average damage as compared to sword, but a wider damage range. Axe has more damaging attack skills, but lesser utility as compared to swords. For Hammer, they have higher average damage and a wide damage range. Maximum damage of hammers are the highest. Hammer don't have much utility skills but have knockdown skills. Both swords and Axes have the same attack speed. Hammer have the slowest attack speed as compared to the other 2. For bows, the damage range is somewhere in the middle, wherelse attack speed and range depends on the bow type. The different type of Swords, Axes and hammers are merely for its looks. Personally, I like the look of Spatha, and find that Dragon swords are ugly. Here is the list of the Range/Speed of each weapon in the game. Bow Name - Sped - Dis - Firing Arc ----------------------------------- Flatbow - 2.0s - 70' - High Longbow - 2.4s - 70' - High Composite- 2.7s - 60' - Low Dead Bow - 2.7s - 60' - Low Recurve - 2.7s - 60' - Low Ivory Bow- 2.7s - 50' - Medium Shortbow - 1.8s - 40' - Low Halfmoon - 1.8s - 40' - Medium Horn Bow - 2.7s - 50' - Medium Sword - 1.33s - N/A Axe - 1.33s - N/A Hammer - 1.75s - N/A Staff - 1.75s - Untested Wand - 1.75s - Untested -Weapon Upgrades- Each type of weapons start with no additional attributes other then the base damage. What makes them stronger is the fact that you can upgrade each weapon with upgrades to make them stronger. The upgrade also depends on itself, there can be a variety between a Axe Haft of Fortitude. One can add 22 health, another add 15 health. This is the way to customize your weapon and make them stronger. -Weapon Customization- You can customize your weapon at the weapon smith. Customizing cost 1gold, but gives a 20% additional damage. However, once customized, only the character who customized it can use the weapon. No one else can use the weapon. ------ Skills ------ Having the skills for your character is the thing about this game. There are several ways to learn a skill for your character. First being learning it from a skill trainer. Skill trainers are spreaded out in different areas, and teaching some different skills. All skills are available though the skill trainer. The prices of the skill increases as you learn more skills through the skill trainer. First being 10 gold, second 20 gold, third 30 gold ect ect. Second is capturing he skill from the boss using Signet of Capture. When you encounter a boss, it will have some skills from a certain profession. When it is using the skill, press signet of Capture and a proression bar would appear. When it finishes, you have successfully captured the skill and it will replace your signet of Capture. Signet of Capture is an elite skill. Third is that some quests reward certain skills at the end of the quest. The skills can also be attained through other means, but this is one of the means as well. Its free of charge, meaning you can learn the skills at a cheaper price overall. ------ Guilds ------ Whats Guild Wars without Guilds. Guilds are an imporatant aspect of the game, which curently opens up a new PvP option, GvG. In the near future, more uses for the guild would be made. You can check your guild Ranking at http://ladder.guildwars.com/ More in depth analysis of the guild would be made possible in the future BPE or when the game is released. Guilds are ranked according to their Guild Rating, which is obtained through their Wins and Loses against certain other guilds. The points won/lost depends on the rank of the opposing guild you are fighting. To create a guild, you will require a celestial cegil. There are mainly 2 ways of obtaining the cegil. First being purchasing it from the Cegil trader for 200+ gold. Second is by defending the Hall of Heroes and winning it at least once. When you win the King of the Hill map in defending the Hall of Heroes, or claiming it from someone else defending it, a box will appear, which when opened, contains a Celestial Cegil. By having a guild, you would have access to your guild's private guild hall. When you enter the guild hall, you can only see your guild members if they are there. Having a guild can also serve as a private chat channel between you and your friends. In Guild menu, you can right click on another member's name and have a following menu poping up. -You : Member, Target : Member- Send a message to -You : Member, Target : Officer- Send a message to -You : Member, Target : Leader- Send a message to -You : Officer, Target : Member- Send a message to Promote to Officer Kick out of Guild -You : Officer, Target : Officer- Send a message to -You : Officer, Target : Leader- Send a message to -You : Leader, Target : Member- Send a message to Promote to Officer Kick out of Guild Designate as Guild Leader -You : Leader, Target : Officer- Send a message to Kick out of Guild Designate as Guild Leader Demote to Member ----------------------------------- Salvaging/Identification/Item Space ----------------------------------- You can salvage almost anything you find. Mainly weapons, armors and salvage items(Duh). Salvaging an Item would require a Salvage kit, either basic or expert. By salvaging, you will get crafting materials from the salvage, and they could be sold for more money. At times, you could get more then just crafting materials. You can get runes, or weapon upgrades. It depends. Expert salvage kit has a higher chance of getting rarer/better items from the salvage, but are more expensive and is not recommended to salvage everything to expert salvage kits, but rather, rare items and items with rune/upgrades, or items that are highly salvagable. In indetification of items, some of the items dropped by the enemies are unidentified. Meaning, you only know part of their stats, not all of it. Hence, identifying makes the weapon usable as well as getting the full benefit. Whats nest to identify? Rare items are to be identified, unless its rare items found in early areas like ascalon, which are usually considered crap at high levels. However, sometimes they may have weapon upgrades which are powerful. Hence, it really depends on how much are you willing to pay for identification and your luck. You get 4 different sacks of item space, with the backpack being the largest, 25, then belt being 5, and 2 bags that can store 5 each. Bags can be bought at outfitters for 100 each, until you got both. Belt is being made by trading worn belt which one can get from the White Mantles in Riverside Province with some trader which I am not too sure where it is. You can increase bag space by using Rune of Holding, which will add 5(Maximum 1 rune per bag) extra space slots. Also, there is a vault where you can store your items. The vault contains 25 item slots. Once you pay 50 old for a vault, you can access it through any character, and have the same vault. You can access the vault through the vault manager in most oustposts. =============================================================================== 3. THE WARRIOR =============================================================================== Warriors. The general tank, melee damage output machine... That is, in other MMORPGs. In guild wars, warriors take on a different perspective. A warrior, which have low energy, has a new system called the "Adrenaline", which is something to fuel its attacks. For each hit you strike, you will gain 1 adrenaline if you do not have any modifiers activated. Warriors also have tactics, which is basically stances, shouts ect, which at times may give warriors the advantage just enough to turn the tides around. And hence, warriors, no longer is your no brainer "Tank", or a "Spam melee skill/attack freak". Warriors in Guild Wars, no doubt, being the best tank and melee damage outputter, require more tactics and skill in playing them. Attributes of warriors: [Strength ]------------------------------------------------- By using the sheer muscle of their body, warriors are able to increase the damage as well as defence. For every point put in strength, the effectiveness of linked skills are increased. Also, you would gain (Number of points in Strength * 1)% armor penetration for attack skills. [Sword Mastery]---------------------------------------------------------------- By mastering the art of wielding a sword, warriors are able to maximise the power of the sword, and wielding it at maximum effectiveness. For every point put in Sword Mastery, the effectiveness of linked skills are increased. Also, you would do more damage when wielding a sword and has a higher chance of critical hit if points are put into sword mastery. [Axe Mastery]------------------------------------------------------------------ By mastering the art of wielding an axe, warriors are able to maximise the power of the axe, and wielding it at maximum effectiveness. For every point put in Axe Mastery, the effectiveness of linked skills are increased. Also, you would do more damage and has a higher chance of critical hit when wielding an axe if points are put into axe mastery. [Hammer Mastery]--------------------------------------------------------------- By mastering the art of wielding a hammer, warriors are able to maximise the power of the hammer, and wielding it at maximum effectiveness. For every point put in Hammer Mastery, the effectiveness of linked skills are increased. Also, you would do more damage and has a higher chance of critical hit when wielding a hammer if points are put into hammer mastery. [Tactics]---------------------------------------------------------------------- By learning the use of tactics, warriors can efficiently tilt the combat to its side, by utilising well employed tactics. For every point in tactics, the effectiveness of linked skills are increased skills are increased. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Skill List ~Incomplete ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The format for the skill would be as follows: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- -[Elite Skill?](,,OR) - - - --- --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For example... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- -Wild Blow(5,0,5) -Lose all adrenaline. If it hits, this attack will be a critical hit. If Wild Blow is blocked or evaded, any stance being used by your target ends. -None -Melee Attack --- Me: Useful attack, critical hit causes additional damage, which obviously, kills the opponent faster. In this case, it can be used to deal with pesky ranger stances that dodges or parry everything you do, ending it to his surprise, this is a pretty useful move for the cost of 5 energy. Quick recharge makes sure that ranger stances can't do much against you. Downside is the lost of adrenaline, which could be quite annoying. RATING: Offence - 7/10 Defence - N/A Utility - 8/10 Overall - 7/10 --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Offence of 5 would be the base of a normal attack's offence abilities. Defence would be the defensive nature of the skill, how well it keeps the character up and running. Utility would be the ability of the skill, of how useful it is and the difficulty of getting its abilities to work. Take note that the skill effects are subjected to change. All skills description are taken from http://www.gwonline.net with the permission of its owner. Last Updated: May 10th. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WARRIOR ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------- General skills -------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- -"For Great Justice!"(10,0,45) -For 15 seconds, your adrenal skills charge twice as fast. -None -Shout --- Me: Very useful shout. For adernaline heavy builds, FGJ would provide them with the ability to spam their adrenaline skills. Gaining 1 extra strike of adrenaline per hit, you basically half the amount of adrenaline you need, and would have the ability to charge up the adrenaline skills very quickly. Paired up with attack speed increasing skills, your adrenaline is certainly not a problem. Downside of this is the 30 seconds inbetween, and the costly 10 energy, that is precious to warriors. RATING: Offence - N/A Defence - N/A Utility - 9/10 Overall - 9/10 --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- -Counter Blow(0,0,4a) -If this attack hits an attacking foe, that foe is knocked down. -None -Hammer Attack --- Me: Its one of the cheapest knockdown skills, and it doesn't take all adrenaline down with it. Though cheap, to acctually get the knockdown to take effect, it isn't that easy. Its very hard to spot a spellcaster attacking. Only time this would prove useful is against a warrior, and sometimes a ranger. RATING: Offence - 5/10 Defence - N/A Utility - 6/10 Overall - 5.5/10 --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- -Distrupting Chop(0,0,6a) -If it hits, this attack interupts the target's current action. If that action was a skill, that skill is disabled for an additional 20 seconds. -None -Axe Attack --- Me: Interupts are always good. When you spot an enemy using any skill, with reaction that is fast enough, you can prevent the skill from taking effect. It would be easy to interupt spells, but nothing is stopping you from interupting any attack skills. Imagine interupting a Final Thrust that would prove fatal to you. You just turn the tides of battle around. With the additional 20 disability, it just prevents spaming of low recharge time spells, and disable the particular player. RATING: Offence - 5/10 Defence - 5/10 Utility - 7/10 Overall - 6/10 --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- -Distracting Blow(5,1/2,10) -Swipe your weapon at the target, dealing no damage but distrupting the target's current action (and the actions of foes adjacent to your target). -None -Melee Attack --- Me: RATING: Offence - /10 Defence - /10 Utility - /10 Overall - /10 --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- -Flurry(5,0,5) -For 5 seconds, your attack rate is increased, but you deal less damage. -None -Stance --- Me: RATING: Offence - /10 Defence - /10 Utility - /10 Overall - /10 --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- -Frenzy(5,0,4) -For 8 seconds, you attack 35% faster but take double damage. -None -Stance --- Me: RATING: Offence - /10 Defence - /10 Utility - /10 Overall - /10 --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- -Hundred Blades[ELITE](5,0,8) -Swing twice at target foe and foes adjacent to your target. -None -Sword Attack --- Me: RATING: Offence - /10 Defence - /10 Utility - /10 Overall - /10 --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- -Skull Crack[ELITE](0,0,10a) -If this attack hits while target foe is casting a spell, that foe is dazed for 15 seconds. -None -Melee Attack --- Me: RATING: Offence - /10 Defence - /10 Utility - /10 Overall - /10 --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- -Wild Blow(5,0,5) -Lose all adrenaline. If it hits, this attack will be a critical hit. If Wild Blow is blocked or evaded, any stance being used by your target ends. -None -Melee Attack --- Me: Useful attack, critical hit causes additional damage, which obviously, kills the opponent faster. In critical hits, you do 1.5*max damage of the weapon, which can be pretty handy for an Axe Warrior, as axes have high max damage. RATING: Offence - 7/10 Defence - N/A Utility - 7/10 Overall - 6.5/10 --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Axe Mastery ----------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Axe Rake(0,0,7a) -If this attack hits a foe suffering from a deep wound, you strike for +1-8 damage and that oe becomes crippled. -Axe Mastery. No hidden catch? A: No. There will not be monthly Fee. Instead, you will buy the game, which is priced at Tier 1 game prices, and you can play on forever. No catch at all. Somewhere around 9 months, ArenaNet will release an expansion. It will be priced at the same price as tier 1 game's expansion, the tier 1 game price. It is said that it will have the same amount of content as the first game. Q: When will GuildWars be released? A: Guild Wars will be released in North America and Europe on April 28th, 2005. Q: What is the system requirements of GuildWars? How do I know if my com can run it well? A: Minimum System Specs: * Windows® XP/2000/ME/98 * Intel Pentium® III 800 Mhz or equivalent * 256 MB RAM * CD-ROM Drive * 500 MB Available HDD Space * ATI Radeon 8500 or GeForce 3 or 4 MX Series Video Card with 32MB of VRAM * 16-bit Sound Card * Internet connection * Keyboard and mouse Recommended System Specs: * Windows® XP/2000/ME/98 * Intel Pentium® III 1GHz or equivalent * 512 MB RAM * CD-ROM Drive * 500 MB Available HDD Space * ATI Radeon 9000 or GeForce 4 Ti Series Video Card with 64MB of VRAM * 16-bit Sound Card * Internet connection * Keyboard and mouse If you are using Integrated graphics from your motherboard, chances are, you wouldn't want to be playing this game with it. It will NOT run well, or even at all. For ram, 256 should suffice, with little choppiness, unless you're running 256 PC-133 rams(THe one I'm using currently), which is then, another matter. 256MB rams are considered low end at the current moment, anything at 384 and above should run it well, even in PC-133. It is perfectly possible to play Guild Wars with 56k. The only problem faced by 56kers are the download of maps/patching of stuff. For the beta, one might need to do quite abit of download, but when the game comes out, a CD of the data that is used when the CD was made is being produced. Meaning, when you install, you install the map/platform files, and you don't have to download them, unless patches to certain maps and such are released, but the patches isn't too much. Q: Will level 20 be the maximum level? A: Yes, level 20 is the cap and it will not increase. This doesn't mean the game ends quick. This is a common misconception due to prolonged exposure to traditional MMORPGs. Reaching level 20 isn't the end, its the beginning. Q: How does the CD key in Guild wars work? How do I install Guild wars when it comes out? A: When you buy, you will receive a Pass Code(Not really considered a CD key) and the CD. You can either install from the CD, which includes all of the content at the point of release, then register an account. It is possible to run it without the CD, meaning, download the client, and it will start streaming the stuff into your com. Only the stuff you need(When you visit a new area, it will download the new area only). While registering your account, you would need to input your pass code. Only 1 passcode per account. Its like steam, your passcode is tied to your account. If you happen to lose your account password or anything, say bye to your money. Q: Is mic chat allowed? A: Yes, you can use third party mic chat programmes like Teamspeak, Ventrillo. In fact, mic chat is one of the important aspects in PvPing as its the fastest way to communicate without having to stop your character's actions ect. Q: What is the best class/does best damage/whatever? There is no best class. You will always have the advantage over someone and someone will always have the advantage over you.
